HPL Webinar: GenAI for Middle School and High School Math Teachers

Location: Livestream

Higher-Powered Learning

Generative AI tools are increasingly positioned as “personal tutors” for students. But what does the research actually suggest about their effectiveness in mathematics education? This session will examine emerging research on AI tutoring, including cognitive offloading, transfer, and risks related to accuracy and overreliance. Lewis will share examples of education-specific and general-purpose GenAI tools to support teachers with preparing materials in mathematic notation and tutoring students.

Participants will learn how to create an AI tutor for math students. Finally, we will briefly examine what is on the horizon in math edtech. This session is designed for math teachers and instructional leaders seeking a clear, research-informed understanding of how AI tutoring can support (and potentially undermine) mathematical learning.
